Pastor's Place
About the Pastor
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is
Daniel C. Nelson II. I'm 42 years old as of June 2011. My wife, Sherry,
and I and three of our boys moved here from Zanesville, Ohio in June of 2007
and we are very happy as God continues to lead and guide us. Our fourth son
decided later he couldn’t stay in Ohio without his family, so he moved here as
well. I felt God’s calling to be a pastor from the time we came to Kentucky in
2007, but since I’ve always sought God first before following my feelings, we
prayed about it.A year later I acted on
God’s call.From the very first time I
preached for the small group we started with, I felt a genuine love and
connection with those six saints of God.This path God has placed me on, March of 2008, is full of good times and
bad, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.I love serving as Pastor in the J-Town community and I have the best
group of people on earth.
Pastor's Heart & Purpose
My purpose is to feed the sheep. I study and pray
and seek the face of God to acquire a revelation from God to share with the
saints. Solomon said there’s nothing new under the sun, so I don’t seek for a
new revelation, only a deeper understanding of God’s word. I care for each and
every member of our church like David cared for his sheep.
Deeper Thinking
Ephesians 2:8 (KJV) "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and
that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man
should boast." This scripture tells us something man is not following
today. Man works hard at trying to be a good Christian. We do things for the
community, each other and for our own spiritual walk with God. Man seems to
think they can accept Christ as their personal savior and they are on their way
to heaven. You won't find that in the Holy Bible KJV 1611; man’s tradition
started this concept of accepting Christ. The popular scripture John 3:16 says
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” This scripture alone
doesn’t get you to heaven; it only protects you from danger. It’s a statement
Jesus made to Nicodemus to explain how believing in God works for true
believers. The steps for Nicodemus to follow are found up a few
scriptures. Start at John 3:1 and read the entire chapter. You’ll find
Nicodemus posed a statement to Jesus saying no man can do the things Jesus does
except God be with him. Jesus answered Nicodemus with a rhetorical statement.
John 3:3 (KJV) “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto
thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Now here
we find the Kingdom of God, not just the word saved “protected”. If we need to
be born again to make heaven, that can’t happen by any works we do, or Eph 2:8
would be wrong. Accepting Christ is not our choice, and we can’t choose
to get the gift of the Holy Ghost or even to be born again on our own. We seem
to forget the scripture “many are called but few are chosen”. Christ does the
choosing and the Spirit of God, which is the Holy Ghost, is the comforter “the
gift”. Nowhere in the scriptures will you find anyone who received the gift of
the “Holy Ghost” and didn’t speak in tongues. Now let’s go back to Eph 2:8, we
need faith in God to be protected and it’s by his grace whether he accepts us
or not. It’s nothing we do of ourselves to be accepted, but it’s through the
gift we are accepted of Christ and the speaking in other tongues is the
evidence of the Spirit being born in us. Not of our works or anything we do.
God looks at the heart and he will enter your heart if it’s a place where he
wants to dwell. So don’t listen to man’s boasting of all the things they do in
this world. It all boils down to God accepting us for who we are not for what
we do. After he accepts us by filling us with the Holy Ghost, our desire changes
from that of a carnal mind to that of a spiritual mind and then we choose to do
his will because we want to.
